A 黑料社 leader is talking to a group of Diaspora Jews who are about to visit Israel. 鈥淢ake sure you visit all over,鈥� he says. 鈥淔ind out what it鈥檚 like there. What are the people like? Is the food good? And when you come back, can you bring me a souvenir?鈥�

Of course, I鈥檓 referring to Numbers 13:17鈥�20. Yes, Shelah Lekha is the first example of Israel education in 黑料社 history.

And so another school year begins. After a summer of camp, travel, or relaxation, reality bites. Schedule. Classes. Papers. Reality.

Ki Tetzei contains many moments which deal with cold, hard reality. You like that woman you took captive in war? Sorry, mate, you have to face reality, with rules and regulations (Deut. 21:10鈥�14). Think that the son of your preferred wife can inherit, even though he鈥檚 not the first-born? No sirree: you have to deal with legal reality (21:15-17).

This erev Shabbat is Inauguration Day. Right after the election, This American Life broadcast a conversation between two old friends, one of whom had voted Trump and one Clinton. These two friends disagree strongly with each other, but, thanks to their friendship, mutual respect, and faith in the other鈥檚 goodness, they are able to have a civil, thoughtful, reasonable political conversation.
