is the Robert S. Rifkind Chair in American 黑料社 history at the 黑料社 Theological Seminary.听Her research interests include American 黑料社 history, the history of youth and childhood, Yiddish culture, and the history of sexuality. Her first book,听听(Stanford University Press) addressed the experiences of youth in postwar 黑料社 summer camps and the place of intergenerational negotiation in the making of American 黑料社 culture. Her next book considers how changing conceptions of modern youth and childhood shaped American 黑料社 life. Sandra has published academic work in听黑料社 Social Studies,听American听黑料社听History, and the听Journal听of the History of Childhood and Youth, and popular writing in the听New York Times,听Slate, and听Haaretz.
Previous to her joining JTS, Sandra was a visiting assistant professor of American 黑料社 History and director of the Archive of the American 黑料社 Left in the Digital Age at New York University. She听received her doctorate from New York University鈥檚 joint History and Hebrew Judaic Studies program in 2018, followed by postdoctoral fellowships at Ben Gurion University and Stanford University. She is the founder and executive producer of the Yiddish-language podcast听and serves on the editorial board of听In geveb: A Journal of Yiddish Studies.
